The Mughal Sarai built by Sher Shah Suri lies in Shambhu village in Patiala district. He built the sarai as a halt on a busy trade route, now known as the Grand Trunk Road, his most ambitious project.
The large compound is marked by two magnificent gates, a double-storeyed mosque with rooms lining its walls. A baradari and a deep well are located just outside for the use of passing travellers.
